Wilkinson, John J.
John J. Wilkinson, 90, of Laughlin, Nev., formerly of Marengo, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, in Bullhead City, Ariz. Funeral Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Father Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will military honors will be in Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, Marengo.
Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo American Legion Post 76, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Marengo, or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Laughlin, Nev.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara; a son, John Jr. (Jennifer) of Germantown, Tenn.; a daughter Leslie of Laughlin; and a sister, Joan Sullivan (Denis) of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, W.J. Wilkinson Jr.
John James Wilkinson was born June 22, 1922, in Grand Island, Neb., the son of W.J. and Florence Pazour Wilkinson. He graduated from Marengo High School, Marengo, Iowa, in 1940 and received his law degree in 1948. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean conflict. At the time of his discharge, he had attained the rank of Major. He married Barbara Tompkins on Nov. 8, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo.
John practiced law in Marengo for many years, serving as Iowa County attorney. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76, the Kiwanis Club and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He retired in 1980 and the couple moved to Laughlin, Nev. in 1986. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Laughlin.
