Wilfred "Sonny" W. Wilkinson, 85, passed away Feb. 10, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Private memorial graveside services for the family will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Wilfred is survived by his son, Steven Wilkinson of Eyota, Minn.; his daughter, Christine Fox of Independence; two grandchildren, James and Crystal King; and numerous brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Betty, in 2006.
Wilfred was born Dec. 30, 1930, in Central City, Iowa, the son of James Russel and Luella Mae (Mills) Wilkinson. On July 17, 1953, he married Betty Paul in Marion. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an aircraft mechanic. Wilfred worked at Collins Radio (Rockwell), where he assembled aircraft avionics. After retiring he spent his time restoring light aircraft and refinishing and repairing antiques at Eckhart Antiques. He was a master craftsman who could rebuild anything.
