Wiebel, Evelyn E.
Evelyn E. Wiebel, 85, of Lowden, passed away Aug. 18, 2012, at the Clarence Senior Living, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 9 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. A Celebration of Life will be held after the visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
She is survived by her three children, Connie (Ken) Hurmence of Clarksville, Cindy (J.J.) Smothers of Cedar Rapids and Craig (Chris) Wiebel of Lowden; two sisters, Elda (Larry) Licht of Clarence and Eloise (Mike) Vacek of Oxford Junction; a brother, Everett (Barb) Ruchotzke of Columbus Junction; nine grandchildren, Damian (Alicia) Hurmence, Laura (Grant) McKaskle, Andrea (Rusty) Lee, Jenna (Kirk) Wischmeyer, Rory (Patricia) Wiebel, Joshua (Sara) Smothers, Tyler, Erica, Samantha Smothers; 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wiebel; parents, Ed and Ida Ruchotzke; a sister, Elizabeth Wiebel; and two brothers, Eldon Ruchotzke and Harold Ruchotzke.
Evelyn E. Wiebel was born June 7, 1927, in Clarence, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Ida Luettjohann Ruchotzke. Evelyn graduated from Clarence High School and then attended Iowa State Teachers College. She married Herbert Wiebel on Aug. 14, 1949, in Clarence. She taught for two years as an elementary teacher for Newton schools before working for the post office. After 30 years she retired from the Lowden Post Office.
Evelyn was very active in volunteering and giving back to her community. She received the KCRG-TV9 Nine Who Care award, Heritage Agency on Aging volunteer of the year award, Governor's Volunteer award, and the Senior Citizen of the Year award. Evelyn was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, lifelong member of the AMVETS Auxiliary and Cedar County Volunteer Services.
She enjoyed sewing, listening to music, making quilts and spending time with her beloved family.
She will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
