Wickham, Doris C.
Doris C. Wickham, 88, died Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, April 18, at the United Methodist Church, Martelle. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Edwin Moreano will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
Surviving are two sons, Vance (Deb) of Anamosa and Michael (Vickie) of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren in 1985; and a son, J. Richard in 1989.
Doris C. Murfield was born July 19, 1922, at Martelle, Iowa, the daughter of Clayton and Cornelia (Hoffman) Murfield. Doris graduated from Martelle Community Schools. She continued her education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon and at Cedar Rapids Business College. She was employed at the Eddy Paper Corporation in Cedar Rapids.
Doris Murfield and Warren Wickham were married June 19, 1943, at the United Methodist Church, Martelle. The couple farmed near Martelle. Doris returned to working away from home after her sons were older. She was employed at Jones County Oil in Anamosa and later at Life Investors in Cedar Rapids, where she retired in 1988. Doris moved from her home in Martelle to Fawn Creek Fairway Condos in 2001. She later resided at Silvercrest of Anamosa and in 2008, moved to the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Doris was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church at Martelle. She had been active in the WSCS, Ladies Aid, and was a Sunday school teacher. She had also belonged to the Pythian Sisters, several neighborhood card clubs and was an active and staunch Democrat.
