Wichmann Jr., Adolph 'Adie'

Adolph “Adie” Wichmann Jr., 79, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids, with his family by his side, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg.

Adolph “Adie” Henry Wichmann Jr. was born June 20, 1933, at the family home south of Homestead, the son of Adolph Sr. and Anna (Koester) Wichmann. He was baptized July 16, 1933, and confirmed March 30, 1947, both at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. He attended St. John's Lutheran School, rural Homestead, and graduated from Marengo High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, stationed in Alaska.

He married Regina “Blondie” Kimm on Feb. 14, 1958, at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown. The couple lived and farmed south of Homestead. He lived his entire life in the Homestead area.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he held several offices on the church council; Iowa County Farm Bureau and the Iowa County Cattlemen. He served on the first bus board at Lutheran Interparish School, Williamburg. He enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and Cyclones.

He will be greatly missed.

Adolph Wichmann is survived by his wife, Regina; four children, Dennis and Cindy Wichmann, rural Williamsburg, Carmen and Scottie Clubb, rural Homestead, Cindy and Robert Jeck, Amana, and Jeff and Melinda Wichmann, rural Homestead; seven grandchildren, Ryan Wichmann, Chicago, Kaitlyn (Ben) Cook and Megan and Alexa Wichmann, all of Iowa City, Alicia (Dan) Overton, Anna Stanerson and Chase Stanerson, all of Williamsburg; one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Overton; siblings, Ray and Eleanor Wichmann, North English, Dorothy and Loren Folkmann, Williamsburg, Earl and Marilyn Wichmann, rural Homestead, and Ethel Wichmann, Osage; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Wichmann, Story City, one brother-in-law, Carl Oehl, Amana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence in 2005; one sister, Fern Oehl in 2009; and one sister, Roma, in infancy.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead, and Lutheran Interparish School, Williamsburg.
