Whitney, Helen
Helen Whitney, 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Dec. 11, 2012, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Helen Whitney was born June 17, 1920, in Boulder, Iowa, daughter of Herman and Marie Brechbuhl Enabnit. She married Arthur Whitney on Nov. 24, 1938, at the Lutheran Church in Ryan, Iowa. She enjoyed music and was a talented singer and guitar player. Her greatest love was for her family and friends. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a son, Rick (Mary) Whitney of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Dian (John) Ong of Fairfield, Beth (Tru) Hall of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Sandra Blease of Cedar Rapids; five sisters; two brothers; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Whitney; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds have been established for Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Hospice.
