Whitman, David Lee
David Lee Whitman, 73, of Des Moines, passed away Sept. 9, 2011, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW Ninth St., Des Moines.
He was born in Springville, Iowa, on Dec. 23, 1937, to John and Mabel Whitman. David graduated from Marion High School and worked in the dairy industry for 36 years.
He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf with his sons. He loved being outdoors working in his yard and spending time with his family.
David is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Jeffrey (Jan) Whitman of Columbia, Ill., Kevin (Jolene) Whitman of Naperville, Ill., Susan (Will) Harris of Germantown, Md., and Brad (Estela) Whitman of Des Moines; brothers, Maurice, Larry (Dora) and James (Pam) Whitman; sisters, Jeanne (Bob) Pflughaupt and Linda Kofron; 13 grandchildren, Joe, Jill, James, John, Julia, Matt, Jennifer, Kathlene, Sydney, Brandon, Luke, Josh and Thomas; and one great-grandchild, Alexia.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Bette Kost and Donna Whitman.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network in loving memory of David.
