Whiting, Ashley Davida
Ashley Davida Whiting, 21, of Iowa City, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at home after a courageous battle with Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. Time of fellowship will immediately follow Mass in Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ashley Davida Whiting Memorial Fund.
Ashley was born July 12, 1990, in Iowa City. Ashley attended Longfellow, South East and City High, graduating in 2008, then St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minn., majoring in Physical Therapy, while playing soccer and track. She transferred to the University of Iowa after her diagnosis to get treatment and continued classes throughout her journey.
Ashley is survived by parents, Dave Whiting and Cheryl Bombei; brothers, Ryan of Iowa City, and Gavin (Jessica) and their children, Charlotte and William; and sister Tara of Milwaukee; grandmother, Virginia L. Bombei of Sigourney; aunts and uncles, Gregory Bombei of Keota, Karen Krogmeier (Roger) of Lockridge, Rosemary Lane (Gary) of Mount Pleasant, Rhonda Hackleman (Dave) of Alexandria, Minn., Thomas Bombei of Kalona, Eric Whiting (Pat) of North Platte, Neb., Natalie Whiting of Bothell, Wash., and Mark Whiting of Iowa City; and many cousins.
Ashley was preceded in death by grandparents, E.C. and Beverly Whiting; and grandfather, Howard Bombei.
