White, Welden 'Whitey'
Welden “Whitey” White, 77, of Marion, died at St. Luke's Hospital, Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by the Rev. Dr. Howard Chapman. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Whitey is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara; children, Louise White of Marion, Linda Johnson of Central City, and Frank White of Dunedin, Fla.; brother, John (Janet) White of Central City; grandchildren, Trevor Weber, Alyssa White, Duane and Adam Trimble, Dustin, Darren, Rusty and Wesley Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Leeah and Bailee Weber and Ryleigh Trimble and Fisher Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Bobby Johnson.
Whitey was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, to Perry and Hazel White. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduation and then married Clara Swordes in the Little Brown Church, Nashua on May 25, 1958. Whitey was a tow motor operator at Iowa Manufacturing for over 44 years, retiring in 1997.
Whitey was a handyman who liked to help anyone who asked. He enjoyed fishing, telling stories and spending his time at their cabin in Paradise Valley Campground. Whitey was known as a prankster both at home and work. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion.
