White, Timothy S.
Timothy S. White, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in Omaha, Neb., following complications from surgery. A celebration of Tim's life will be held Tuesday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Christ Church in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Private family inurnment will take place in Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Tim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janalyn; three children: daughter, Julie White of Minneapolis; son, Ned (Claire) White of Buffalo, N.Y.; and son, Steve (Mindi) White of Cedar Rapids; and six grandchildren: grandsons Slade, Thor and Bjorn White, and granddaughters Avery, Samantha and Lucy White. He is also survived by his brother, Joe White of Buffalo, N.Y.
Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Martha White.
Tim was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Edward and Denise White. He graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in Faribault, Minn., and then attended the University of Iowa, where he received his law degree from the College of Law in 1967. Tim worked as an Assistant County Attorney for Linn County and then started his own practice in Cedar Rapids, specializing in trial work. Tim was an advocate for many individuals in need. He was past president of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, past president of St. Luke's Foundation and a longtime trustee of Mount Mercy University.
Prairie du Chien was his second hometown for over 32 years. While there, he loved mowing on his farm with his John Deere tractor. He enjoyed reading, boating and all things social. Tim had a deep passion for all kinds of art, especially modern art and sculpture. But nothing exceeded his deep love for his entire family.
