White Jr., William H.
William H. White Jr., 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Colonial Manor of Amana Nursing Home, Amana. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial, with military rites, will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Rose; daughter, Becky (Steve) Sandersfeld of Homestead; son, Ron (Karen) White of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marcus White of Bertram, Harold White of Marion, Donald (Sharon) White of Dallas, Texas, and David (Shirley) White of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, and sisters, Betty and Mavis.
William H. White Jr. was born April 6, 1924, in rural Linn County, Iowa, the son of William and Loretta (Williams) White. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Oct. 26, 1942, he married Rose B. Wharton in Lancaster, Mo. William was employed by P.I.E. for many years and enjoyed yard work and reading. He was especially devoted to caring for his wife and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Memorials may be sent in his name to Colonial Manor in Amana or the American Cancer Society.
