White, Evelyn Gladys (Zier)
Evelyn Gladys (Zier) White, 97, former Marion resident, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, Thursday, April 5, 2012, in Hudson, Fla.
Evelyn was the daughter of John W. and Ethel (Hays) Zier. She was born in Canton, Mo., in 1914 and later moved to Iowa as a young girl. Evelyn was the eldest of seven and quit school in the 8th grade to help support the family. As a young girl, she was employed as a housekeeper. She met Raymond J. Davin and they were married in 1933. They farmed in Marion and Cedar Rapids for many years until Raymond's death in 1967.
Evelyn was employed by Craemer's in Lindale Plaza in the mid 1960s in the ladies wear department. In 1969, she married Harold G. Munier and spent time between Iowa and Florida for a few years and eventually moved to Florida permanently. Harold passed away in 1986 and Evelyn remained in Florida. She met Frederick White and they were married in 1988. Frederick passed away in 2009.
Evelyn was a devout Catholic and a former parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marion. Evelyn enjoyed being outdoors. She liked to garden, go fishing, and do crafts. Some of her happiest times were with a fishing pole in her hand. Her life centered around her family and her extended Munier and White families.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Cleo Michel, John W. “Bud” Zier, William J. Zier, Jeanette LeClere, David D. Zier and Robert K. Zier.
Survivors included her daughter, Joan R. (Gannon R.) Walch of Tonopah, Ariz.; granddaughter, Cynthia L. (Michael S.) Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; and great-grandsons, Michael Pardon and Nicholas Smith.
Her family would like to express their appreciation for the care she was given by the staff at Atria Windsor Woods of Hudson, Fla., and HPH Hospice of New Port Richey, Fla.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids.
