White, C. Robert 'Bob'
C. Robert “Bob” White, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Dec. 20, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial Services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Pastor Michael Metz will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour before, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church. A light meal will be served at the church immediately following the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Phyllis; a son, Gary (Pamela) White of Webster City; daughter, Amy Powell of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Heather (Dustin) Golden, Christopher (Morgan) White, Cameron White, Stephen (Sarah) McCowen, R.J. Powell, Amber (Chris) Hinds, Brandon Powell and Chad Powell; and a great-grandchild, Nora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Claire Darlene White; and his mother- and father-in-law, Anna and Fred Ruter.
C. Robert “Bob” White was born July 30, 1927, in Chicago, the son of Clarence and Venus Brubaker White. Bob graduated in 1945 from Newton High School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University in 1950. Bob and Phyllis Ruter were married April 4, 1952, in Wellsburg, Iowa. Bob worked in the power industry before owning and operating C.R. Maintenance Engineers Inc. for 27 years before retirement. Bob was a member of IEEE and Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
Bob was heavily active in the church. He volunteered for 11 years at the Kenwood Elementary School assisting students with math, reading and science. Bob's teaching did not stop there as he taught youth and adult Sunday school. Bob had many interests, including reading, classical music, yard work, traveling with his wife Phyllis, volunteering and supporting the Iowa State Cyclones.
He was loved and respected by all who knew him. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren's activities.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family request memorials be directed to the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church or Kenwood Elementary School.
