White, Anna Maria Wennekamp
Anna Maria Wennekamp White, 94, of Vinton, formerly of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab, Vinton, due to complications of age. Private family graveside services will be Monday at Springville Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton.
Anna was born March 16, 1915, in rural Amber, Iowa, the daughter of G. Henry and Anka M. Husmann Wennekamp. She was raised in rural Jones County and attended the rural Amber School. On May 6, 1933, Anna was united in marriage with Elbert White in Iowa City. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1990. Anna ran a print machine for Rockwell-Collins, retiring in 1979.
Anna enjoyed word find and jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo, reading, and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.
Anna is survived by two sons, Doug (Debbie) White of Vinton and Darle White of Mechanicsville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Martha (Toots) Steuri of Monticello; and one daughter-in-law, Karen White of Wellman.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Elbert Jr., Dean and Dale White; two brothers, Jack and Bill Wennekamp; and one sister, Meta Rink.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home is caring for Anna and her family.
