Whisenand, Barbara S.
Barbara S. Whisenand, 71, of Brooklyn, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a memorial service to be held at 7 p.m. The Rev. John Reynolds Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jim Smith of Brooklyn; a son, Allen Whisenand (Kate) of Ankeny; a daughter, Jenice Whisenand of Polk City; two brothers, Robert (Anita) Sutfin of Montezuma and Paul Sutfin of Eldridge; and four sisters, Marie Haggerty of Lyons, Ill., Helen White of Huntley, Ill., Kathleen Fiorito (John) of Florida and Teresa Chartrand of Trevor, Wis. She was a loving grandmother to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a fond aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Whisenand; a daughter, Dawn Kriegel; and a sister, Carol Earley.
Barbara Susanna Sutfin was born July 24, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Robert and Lois (Bauman) Sutfin. She received her high school diploma from a Chicago area school. Barbara was the owner of Whisenand Bookkeeping and Tax Service in Brooklyn for many years. She continued her education with many self-education courses in the tax and bookkeeping field, along with attending tax preparation seminars throughout her career. She was listed in Who's Who of American Business Women as a most notable woman.
Barbara was a member of the Brooklyn Ladies Auxiliary and also served on the local ambulance service. In her free time Barbara enjoyed reading and traveling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with the Victor State Bank.
