Westemeier, Raymond John
Raymond John Westemeier, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial to follow in the Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Raymond was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Cascade, the son of Louis and Cecila (Recker) Westemeier. He married Leona Novak on April 23, 1952, in Cedar Rapids. Ray served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 5. He was a reconditioner of automobiles for Rapids Chevrolet for over 39 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and making wood replicas of the American Flag.
Ray is survived by his wife, Leona; children, Carol (Kevin) Walter of Oxford, Alvin (Pam) Westemeier of Coggon and Carl Westemeier of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kris, Dan, Tiffany, Amber, Alex, Mark, Matt, Katelyn, Kendallyn and Karalyn; and four great-grandchildren, Angel, Caden, Jonah and Tyton.
Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Edmund, Whitey and Marcella “Cell” Westemeier; and sisters, Delores Leytem and Francis “Sis” Comer.
Memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 5.
