West, Gene M.
Gene M. West, 69, of Independence, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at his home following a long illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, at First Presbyterian Church, Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call for visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home in Independence, where a military service begins at 5 p.m.
Mr. West is survived by his wife of 49 years, Winona; three sons, Steven (LaDonna) West of Anamosa, Edward (Deborah) West of Marion and Russell (Nikki) West of Winthrop; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
On Sept. 16, 1960, he and the former Winona Jean Zimmerman were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
