Wernke, Douglas J.
Douglas J. Wernke, 30, of Dyersville, died May 12, 2012, in Dyersville. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Doug was born Oct. 30, 1981, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Robert and Janet (Middlekauff) Wernke. He graduated from Beckman High School with the class of 2001 and went on to receive an Associate Degree from Kirkwood Community College. He was currently employed at Dyersville Die Cast.
Doug had a heart of gold and would help anyone with anything. He was great with his nieces and nephews, often playing transformers, Legos and generally spending time with them. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends outdoors: canoeing, camping or slow-pitch softball. Other activities included watching sports, playing poker, dominoes or Xbox.
Survivors include his parents, Bob and Janet of Dyersville, siblings: Angela (Matthew) Trenkamp of Dyersville, Brian (Kristen) of Farley, and Sara (Brad) Slater of Cedar Rapids; seven nieces and nephews, Max, Jackson, Daisy, Elizabeth, Anna, Brayden and Brynnleigh; several aunts; uncles; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth (Lerch) Middlekauff; paternal grandparents, John and Odelia (Zewen) Wernke; and many aunts and uncles.
