Werning, Delores 'Dee'
Delores “Dee” Werning, 77, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg following a brief illness. Public visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth St., Vinton. Private family funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Dee was born Nov. 27, 1934, to Clifford and Ethel Geltz Weisert near Mount Auburn, Iowa. She graduated from Brandon High School. Dee was united in marriage to Loren Werning on April 5, 1959, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. Loren preceded Dee in death on July 7, 2007.
She was a longtime and active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, serving her church in a variety of ways. As a hardworking farmwife Dee enjoyed baking, working outside, gardening, watching sports on TV and spending time with her grandchildren. In her leisure she participated in bowling league.
Dee is survived by her son, Kendall Werning of Shellsburg; daughter, Janelle Nissen of Vinton; and son, Vaughn (Lisa) Werning of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren, Bronson Werning of Shellsburg, Nathan Nissen of Cedar Falls, Sarah Nissen of Iowa City and Katelyn and Carson Werning of Fort Dodge; her brother, Russell Weisert of Vinton; and her sister, Maxine Briggs of Traer.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
