Werning, Annis Marie

Annis Marie Werning, 93, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Hiawatha Care Center in Hiawatha following an extended illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 12, at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne, with the Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery near Newhall. Visitation also will be held at the church in Van Horne from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. 

Annis was born July 7, 1916, at Newhall, to John and Frances (Gardeman) Schloterbeck and was baptized on Sept. 10, 1916, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, where her confirmation verse on April 3, 1931, was Psalm 145:18-19. She graduated from Newhall High School in 1934. On Oct. 2, 1935, she was united in marriage to Lester Werning in Newhall. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2000.             Annis was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother “G.G.” and she truly loved her family. She enjoyed growing flowers and quilting. She was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Van Horne.

She is survived by her daughters, Colleen (Phil) Gibbins of Belle Plaine and Carol (Chuck) Kunstorf of Newhall; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ardis; her brothers, Marvin and Harold; and her infant great-grandson, Dayton.

Her family extends special thanks to the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center for the loving care their mother and her entire family received.

A memorial fund has been established.
