Werner, David Lee

David Lee Werner, 54, of Alexandria, Va., died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013.

He was born June 3, 1959, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Inez (Bruggemann) Werner. David graduated from West Delaware High School in 1977, the University of Iowa in 1981 and Yale University Law School in 1985.

David married Kim Fischer, formerly of Watertown, S.D., in St. Paul, Minn., on June 6, 2009.

He worked as an attorney, lobbyist and comedian in the Washington, D.C., area. David had been a part of The Capitol Steps comedy troupe for many years and was named the District of Columbia's funniest lawyer. He appeared on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, NBC's Today and PBS. He was also featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, People and the Washington Post.

Surviving are his wife, Kim; his parents, Lawrence and Inez Werner of Manchester; and his five siblings, Daniel of West Des Moines, Robert of Rochester, Minn., Barbara of Madison, Wis., Susan of Chicago and Mark of Madison, Wis, and their families.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, by the Rev. Phil Kruse and the Rev. Joseph Schneider. There will be a 10 a.m.  Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, with a 2 p.m. Scripture service. Also friends may call one hour before the service on Monday at the church. Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
