Werling, Velda Gladys

Velda Gladys Werling, 89, of Atalissa, died Tuesday, Oct., 20, 2009, at Greenwood Manor, Iowa City. Visitation will take place Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Ron Lashmit officiating. Burial will be at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton.

Velda Gladys Werling, daughter of Peter and Stella DeMean, was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Cedar County. She attended country school at Rochester and Springdale while growing up. On Oct. 10, 1951, Velda was united in marriage to Vernon Gilbert Werling in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Oak Hill Club and attended Rochester Methodist Church.

Velda is survived by her daughters, Betty (Dan) O'Rourke of Fulton, Mo., and Nancy (Brian) Telleen of Atalissa; sons, John Werling and Mary Sward of Muscatine, Robert (Louise) Werling of Atalissa; daughter-in-law, Penny Werling of Atalissa; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Werling on May 5, 1987; five brothers; and three sisters.
