Wendy Sue Hamilton (Kuchemann), 62, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 27, 2024, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Wendy was born November 30, 1961, to Charles and Donna Kuchemann. After graduating from Galena, IL high school she moved to Iowa City, IA to attend the University of Iowa and graduated with her bachelor's degree in biology.
She remained at the University of Iowa for 40 years in a long career of important medical research. Most recently she was a valued member of the Maternal Fetal Tissue Cord and Blood Bank. After she retired, she traveled the world with her friends, fulfilling several of her “bucket list” countries.
Wendy married Michael Hamilton on October 8, 1988. They were married for 23 years and were blessed with two children, Brenna and Austin.
Wendy is survived by her children, Brenna (Nick) Hosek and Austin Hamilton. Her first grandchild (Crue Hosek) was born the day before she passed. She is also survived by her siblings, Lana (Bill) Diskin, Geri (Jim) Wieters, and Tom (Julie) Kuchemann and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her one true love, Belle, her beloved black lab, her parents, Charles and Donna Kuchemann, her sister-in-law Donna Eudaley and more recently her brother Dennis Eudaley.
She had a love for animals and truly cared about her impact on the environment and Mother Earth. Wendy loved to read, to travel, and most of all she loved being surrounded by her family and her friends.
She loved living in her small-town community of Swisher, where she was surrounded by her close circle of friends and considered them family. Wendy loved children most of all and was known as “Aunt Wendy” to many, whether they were blood related or not.
Wendy will be especially remembered for her distinct and infectious laugh and for always giving out the best advice. She was truly the life of every party and had many, many friends that will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 23rd 1:00pm-4:00pm open house style at the Midnight Gem in Swisher, IA.
