Wendell Newberry

WENDELL C. NEWBERRY Cedar Rapids Wendell C. Newberry, 89, joined our Lord on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019. Private viewing, services and burial are being handled by Cedar Memorial. Wendell was born Aug. 20, 1929, in Capron, Ill., one of four children of Laura A. Schwertgefer and Samuel N. Newberry. Wendell graduated from North English High School in 1948 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He married Beverly A. Davis in 1954. This union produced two children, Deborah and Samuel. Wendell worked many jobs during his lifetime, but retired from Rockwell Collins in 1986 with over 30 years employment. He served as a union steward, worked in lathe, machine shop and later years maintenance. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, traveling, animals, his pets throughout the years and, most of all, his family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, LaVerne; his son, Samuel; and his wife, Beverly, in April 2018. Wendell is survived by his daughter, Deborah; two sisters, Marlene and Sandra; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the family.
