Welsh, William Laverne
William Laverne Welsh, 78, of Trenton, Mo., formerly of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mo. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Guttenberg, with the Rev. Penny Hansel officiating. Inurnment will follow service at the Guttenberg City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, and one hour before the service at the funeral home.
He was born the son of John and Maude (Monroe) Welsh on Sept. 12, 1933, in Waucoma, Iowa. After receiving his high school education, William enlisted in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged on Sept. 4, 1954. On June 16, 1956, William married Rose Marie Hunemuller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. This union blessed the couple with four children. For 33 years, William worked in the transmission assembly line at John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement. For the last few years, William and Rose made their home in Trenton, Mo. William was a member of the AMVETS and Eagles Club.
William is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose; three children, Bill (Diane) Welsh of Cedar Rapids, Donald Welsh of Clinton and Vickie (Duke) Eppler of Dickeyville, Wis.; grandchildren, Alissa, Will and Chris Welsh (Cedar Rapids children of Bill and Diane Welsh), Jennifer, Nicole and Jason (all of Dubuque and children of Don Welsh); Nick and Valarie Reardon, Carrie Eppler and Kristi (Eppler) Henry (Dubuque, all children of Vickie and Duke Eppler); great-grandchildren, Megan Reardon, Joe Johnson, Alex and Andrue Henry; siblings, Beverly Helm, Arletta Hankes and Peg Bangs; and many other relatives and friends.
William was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wendy Welsh; and three siblings, Bob Welsh, Vanita Hines and Leland Welsh.
