Wellman, James Arthur 'Jim'
James Arthur “Jim” Wellman, 72, died March 19, 2010, at his home in Portland, Ore. Private interment has been held.
Survivors include his children, Cynthia Wellman, Teresa Walton, Margo Oldham, Sharon Wellman and Daniel Wellman; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lavada, on Nov. 7, 2008.
He was born March 24, 1937, in Jay, Ind. He was raised and educated in Adams County, Ind. Upon high school graduation he attended Ball State College in Muncie, Ind. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served one enlistment during the Korean conflict. On Oct. 18, 1958, he married Lavada Frazier in Celina, Ohio. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing vows with family and friends in Portland, Ore. He enjoyed golf, boating, fishing and family.
He worked for New Idea Farm Equipment and owned The Knight Life Supper Club restaurant in Shueyville, Iowa from 1972-1986. In 1989, he moved to Portland, Ore., and worked as an apartment manager for Quantum Residential Properties for 20 years.
