Weiland, Doris Mae
Doris Mae Weiland, 87, of Lowden, died April 9, 2011, at Wheatland Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, Iowa, with the Rev. Greg Steckel officiating. Burial: St. Patrick's Cemetery, Big Rock. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland, with a vigil service at 8 p.m.
Born Sept. 4, 1923, in Morrison, Ill., the daughter of Raymond and Merle (Eastman) Mallinger, she married Francis Weiland on May 1, 1943, in Clinton. Doris and Frank farmed in Cedar County for many years. The family moved to Lowden in 1962.
Throughout her life she was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, American Legion Auxiliary and the community. She was a beloved nurses' aide at the Wheatland Nursing Home for 15 years before she retired. She loved to play cards, cook for her family and spoil her grandkids.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Korzendorfer of Fort Atkinson, Pamela (Joe) Schumacher of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Peggy (Scott) Peterson of Boone; six sons, John and friend Rose Snyder of Davenport, James (Diane) of Camanche, Joseph and friend Sally Sebetka of Mechanicsville, Jeff and friend Sue Hart of Cedar Rapids, Jay (Pam) of Lowden and Jack (Patti) of Mechanicsville; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Leslie (Delores) Mallinger of Clinton; and sister-in-law, Myrtis Mallinger of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank in 1996; son, Jerome; grandson, Daniel; three brothers and a sister.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church in Toronto or St. Patrick's Cemetery in Big Rock.
Doris' family wants to thank the Wheatland Manor staff and volunteers for the extraordinary devotion, care and kindness extended to her during her stay there. They really made it special for mom.
