Wehby, Helen Kacere
Helen Kacere Wehby, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Atrium Village Care Center in Hills. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, with burial to follow in St. George Orthodox Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church where there will be a 7 p.m. Trisagion service. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Helen was born June 12, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Charles and Lillian (Alberts) Kacere. She married George Wehby on June 23, 1940, in Cedar Rapids. Helen and George owned and operated Wehby's Food Market for many years until George's death in 1967. She enjoyed playing cards and board games as well as cooking family favorites. Helen enjoyed the time spent with her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Susan (Roger) Sherrard of Atlanta, Ga., Carol Wehby of Iowa City, and Judith (Gary) Reinhart of Miami, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lori (Wayne) Elmore of Houston, Texas, Lisa (Trent) Wogon of Atlanta, Ga., Lynne (John) Vaught of Darien, Conn., Matthew Reinhart of New York, N.Y., and Erin (David) Aynes of Atlanta, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Charlie, William, Jackson, Jordan, Jillian and Lillian; a brother, George (Mary Jean) Kacere of Des Moines; a sister, Maxine Nemer of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kacere of Cedar Rapids.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; her sisters, Fannie Haddy and Delia Laham; and brothers, Abe, Robert and John Kacere.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice and/or to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.
