Weers, Dennis R.
Dennis R. Weers, 59, of Anamosa, died peacefully at home after a long illness Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, surrounded by his family. Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church in Monticello. The Rev. Ellery Dykeman will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Wayne Zion Cemetery.
Dennis was born June 19, 1954, in Anamosa, the son of Vernon and Enid (Gilmore) Weers. On March 23, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Julie Cook, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Farming was his life and his passion. He loved working with his hands and he could fix anything. Dennis had a big heart and was always willing to help others. No matter what his day was like he always had a smile.
He was so proud to have witnessed his children graduate from high school, college, get married and to meet his four grandchildren. His strength and courage was derived from his great love for his family.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; four children, Brock (Emily) of College Station, Texas, Kristin (Jay) Kloft of Clay Center, Kan., Lindsey (Fred) Austin of Anamosa and Abigail (Alonzo) Barkley of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Megan and Mallory Weers, Jase Kloft and Brynn Austin; his parents, Vernon and Enid of Anamosa; three brothers, Gary (Joanne) of Anamosa, Stuart (Belva) of Boone and Jerry (Sara) Weers of Richmond, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Linda (Ted) Williams of Mount Vernon, Carolyn (Bill) Lutz of Ames and Rick (Susan) Cook of Monticello; and a sister-in-law, Marita Cook of Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Gene and Betty Cook; and a brother-in-law, Mike Cook.
Memorials are preferred.
