Weber, Frances A.
Frances A. Weber, 90, of Independence, formerly of Walker, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, where a parish vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m., and also one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walker. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Ray Post 376 of Walker. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Walker.
Frances was born Sept. 8, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Michael) Schmitz in Urbana, Iowa. She married Francis Weber on Aug. 7, 1943, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Brunswick, N.J. He died Nov. 1, 2009. Frances graduated from Walker High School in 1939 and then went to Mount Mercy College, where she received her RN degree. She was a veteran of the United States Army where she served as a nurse during World War II. Frances was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and she held a special place in her heart for all living things. Her last great adventure, which was two weeks ago, was a trip with the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Frances was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Jerome Weber of Sweet, Idaho; her daughters, Susan (Chuck) Briggman of Quasqueton, Carol (Pete) Peters of Urbana, Barbara (Pete) Divita of Elko, Nev., Patricia (Bob) Havlik of Walker and Mary (Bill) Maddox of Yorktown, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Jealee Weber of Troy Mills; a sister, Eileen Knight of Walker; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Paul; a daughter-in-law, Marsha; three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial fund has been established in Frances' memory.
