Weber, Donald Harry 'Donnie'
Donald Harry “Donnie” Weber, 80, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, in his Mechanicsville home due to an apparent heart attack. Donnie's visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Donnie is to be buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville, with military honors.
Surviving Donnie is his wife of 53 years, Wanda; three daughters, Janice (Stan) Mullan, Mechanicsville, Connie (Rick) Pruess, Mechanicsville, and Sally (Mike) Berry, Clive; a son, Ronnie (Diana), Mechanicsville; brothers, William “Willy” (Betty) Mechanicsville, and Harold (Janice), Springville; and sister, Sherry (Lynn) Hanks, Mechanicsville.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mandi (Frank) Tarr, Jenny (Matt) Drewelow, Brandon (Katrina) Kirstein, Michael and Miranda Boyle, Alexis and Nate Berry, and Dayna (Chris) Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ciera and Teagan; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; son, Michael “Mike; four brothers, LuVerne, Merle, Kenneth “Babe” and Dennis; and four sisters, LaVonne, Elvera, Marlene “Mert” and Carol “Jeannie.”
Donnie was born Nov. 16, 1930, at home in Le Mars, Iowa, the fifth son of Henry Carl and Emma Engel Dircks Weber. He served with the United States Marine Corp from 1952 until 1954 and was stationed in Korea in 1953. Donnie married Wanda Reed on Nov. 16, 1957, in Stanwood. Donnie was a 50-year member of the Busch-Dennis American Legion Post #309, Mechanicsville, and the VFW Post, Tipton. After his discharge from the service, he moved to Mechanicsville in 1954. He along with his brothers founded and co-owned Weber Brothers Construction until 1993.
A memorial fund has been established.
