Wayne E. Siders, 71, passed away Sept. 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a short illness. In honor of Wayne's wishes, no formal services will take place.
Wayne was born Aug. 13, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, and lived his entire life in the Coralville area. He graduated from University High School and the University of Iowa.
While attending college, Wayne was employed as a Coralville police officer. After college he worked for Iowa City Transfer as a truck driver. He finished his working career as a social worker for the Department of Human Services in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. He retired Oct. 1, 2009, after 27 years of service.
Wayne married Betty Libenguth on Sept. 10, 1984, and they were married 26 years.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife and his parents, Edwin and Juanita Siders.
Wayne was an avid outdoorsman and he loved the Mississippi River. He spent hours walking the trails by the river and watching the eagles. He and Betty also spent hours at Kent Park, fishing and walking the trails.
Wayne was a compassionate and funny man and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his best friend and partner, Sandra Vermace; her family, John, Deb, Dan and Kris Ockenfels; good friends, Dick Schintler and Mike Beard; and his brother, Glenn (Joan), and family, Aaron, Shannon and Cory.
