Wayne M. Shannon, 72, of Des Moines, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the Des Moines VA Health
Care System. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. John Kerr officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Military services: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.

Wayne Michael Shannon was born Dec. 13, 1943, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Clifford Michael and Margaret (Holmes) Shannon. He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard. Wayne worked in Chicago and then continued his education at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Wayne moved to Des Moines, where he worked in the office for O'Halloran Trucking and then for many years at Ruan Trucking until his retirement.
He enjoyed photography, collecting Roseville pottery and spending time with his family.
Wayne is survived by his brother, Larry (Ruth) Shannon of Hiawatha; sister, Marilyn Bennett of Oelwein; niece, Jackie (Jamie) Wagner of Cedar Rapids; two nephews, John Shannon of Cedar Rapids and Robert (Corinne) Bennett Jr. of Hazleton; six great-nieces and great-nephews, Brianna (Joe) Davis, Brandon Wagner, Samantha Shannon, Jacob Shannon, Natalee Bennett and Lydia Bennett; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
