Wayne Powers, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021. Services: private. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required. Burial will be at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.

Wayne was born Oct. 16, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Beebe) Powers. Wayne obtained an engineering degree and two years later earned professional engineering certification by the state of Iowa. He worked for FMC for 21 years in various capacities. He was a group supervisor, wrote the first computer program for the company and worked with attorneys as a product litigation expert, and represented the company on the International Standards Committee.

Over his lifetime, Wayne was a member of several community service clubs and was still an active lifelong member of the Optimist Club.

Wayne had many interests, long walks in nature, travel, and a love of music ranging from jazz to symphony. Theater and museums would be enjoyed frequently. He and his wife were blessed in that they enjoyed sharing all the same interests and values.

Wayne retired from full time work in 2019 and was still active as a structural engineer. He stayed employed because he loved helping and interacting with many different people. He kept an open mind his entire life and was excited to gain new knowledge, understanding and experiences. He will be missed by many, especially his wife whom he spoiled and made happy for 58 wonderful years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Inara; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
