Wayne R. "Bodgy" Lacina, 87, of Iowa City, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wayne's memory to City High School Athletic Association, National Parkinson's Foundation or Oaknoll Foundation.

Wayne was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Iowa City, the son of Irene (Linder) and Raymond Lacina. He spent his early years on a farm in Union Township before moving to the north end of Iowa City in 1931. Wayne attended Iowa City High School, where he played basketball and football. Graduating in 1945, Wayne enlisted in the Army in 1946, serving at bases throughout the U.S. After an honorable discharge, Wayne took advantage of the GI Bill to attend the University of Iowa, where he majored in accounting. Upon graduation in 1951, Wayne took a job in the business office at Oakdale Sanatorium, where he worked for 36 years, retiring as hospital admin-istrator.

Shortly after starting at Oakdale, Wayne met Betty Lou Propst, a young occupational therapist. After a brief courtship, Wayne and Betty were married Feb. 6, 1953, and have enjoyed 61 years to-gether. Wayne and Betty both retired in 1986 and have enjoyed many years playing golf and traveling together.

Wayne was a member of the Iowa City Elks Club and very active in the Iowa City Bowlers Association, being inducted into the Men's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986. Wayne enjoyed fast pitch softball in his early years and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman.

He and Betty enjoyed raising their family and spending summers entertaining friends and family at their cabin on the Coralville Reservoir.

His family includes his wife, Betty; son, Warren (Sandy) of Burnsville, Minn.; daughter, Andrea (Brian Dempsey) of Englewood, Colo.; Warren's family: his son, Marshall (of Wayzata, Minn.) and daughter, Melissa (Burnsville, Minn.) and Andrea's family: her stepson, Jason Dempsey (Denver, Colo.).

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

Wayne will be missed by his family and his friends, including his neighbors at Oaknoll Care Center in Iowa City.

The family is especially thankful to the staff at Oaknoll for the loving dedication and diligent care provided to Wayne over the past six years.
