WAYLON EUGENE MCCORD JR. Cedar Rapids Waylon Eugene McCord, Jr., 72, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Solon, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at his home. A celebration of life to be held at a future date, with private burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville, Iowa. Survivors include his children, Kimberly Stark (Stan) of Oceanside, Calif., and Matthew McCord of Iowa City, Iowa; brothers, Glen McCord of San Francisco, Calif., Doug McCord of Winter Springs, Fla., and John McCord (Amy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Sharon Schanbacher of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Gloria Arthur McCord; sisters-in-law, Debra Becker and Sandra Hites; uncle, Max Arthur; grandchildren and several nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Waylon McCord, Sr.; and wife, Linda Becker McCord. Waylon, aka Sonny McCord, was born in Anamosa, Iowa, on Sept. 13, 1945. He graduated from Marion High School in 1963. Waylon was married in 1965 to Linda Becker for 38 years until she died in 2004. Waylon was a steamfitter and proud member of Local Union 125 of UA Plumbers and Pipefitters for 50-plus years. He was a loving and proud grandfather of Stephanie and Joshua Stark. Sonny was an avid football fan and especially loved the Hawkeyes, Vikings and Chiefs. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
