Watson, Ann Mida
Ann Mida Watson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Cottage Grove Place. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, April 1, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty, with the Rev. David O'Connor and the Rev. Gerald Condon concelebrating. A visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Ann Mida Coleman was born Sept. 24, 1924, the daughter of Leo and Margaret Coleman. She grew up in Davenport, Iowa, with her four brothers and one sister. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy. Ann married John C. Watson in 1947. They moved to Washington, D.C., where John received his J.D. from Georgetown University and where they started their family. They then lived in Peoria, Ill., before moving to Cedar Rapids.
Ann and her husband John were charter members of All Saints Parish, where Ann was an active volunteer. She also belonged to the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering for many years in the Mercy Gift Shop.
Though she lost her husband, John, at 52, she remained devoted to him for life.
As a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend, she loved unconditionally. Her kindness, gentle ways, and sense of humor were a joy and inspiration to all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank the many special caregivers at Cottage Grove Place, and also express gratitude for the comfort and peace brought to Ann and the entire family by Mercy Hospice, Father David O'Connor, Father Jack Flaherty, Father Gerald Condon and Linda Stavropoulos.
Memorial contributions may be sent to All Saints Church and Mercy Medical Center.
Survivors include her children, John (Judy) Watson, Cathy (Bill) Graber, Mark (Jan) Watson, Mary (Bill) Johnson, Susie (Greg) Wylie, Peter (Penny) Watson, and Jim (Donna) Watson; 24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Betty McCabe; brother, Skeets Coleman; sisters-in-law, Jean Watson and Marge Coleman; and many nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Watson; parents; and brothers, Jack, Tom, and Plug.
