Washburn, Violet 'Vicky'
Violet “Vicky” Washburn, 83, of Elwood, died Saturday afternoon, March 17, 2012, at her home in Elwood. Public graveside services and burial celebrating Violet's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa.
Violet “Vicky” Clarkson was born May 24, 1928, in Wickham County, England, to Edward and Luise (McMoran) Clarkson. She married Newman Washburn on May 12, 1956, in Elwood, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2003.
Vicky first worked for Clinton Engines on the assembly line, and later in the housekeeping department at Crestridge Nursing Home and the Jackson County Public Hospital, both in Maquoketa.
Vicky was a member of First Baptist Church in Maquoketa and was actively involved in the Jackson County Historical Society and the Clinton Engines Museum. She enjoyed making dolly clothes, gardening and painting, most notably scenic pictures. Her family was especially important to her.
Violet is survived by her children, David (Kathy) Washburn of Mount Vernon and Mitzi Washburn of Wyoming, Iowa; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Edwin Clarkson; and a sister, Ann Miles.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Hospice of Jackson County.
