Warren Lee Holst, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, October 3, 2024, at St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. October 26, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids with a Celebration of Life Gathering to immediately follow at the church. Private inurnment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Warren was born July 12, 1938, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of William H. and Helen (Hilton) Holst. He graduated from Vinton High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 – 1963 during Vietnam. Warren was united in marriage to Doris Jean Bowen on September 4, 1971. He worked for Sunbeam Bread for 31 years and at the Eastern Iowa Airport for 5 years until his retirement in 2000. Warren was a member of the American Legion Post 298 in Marion, Iowa and Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Jean Holst of Cedar Rapids; children, Shawn (Angie) Holst of Olathe, Kansas, and Scott Holst of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Cassandra (Logan) Lewis, Danielle Holst, and Ryan Holst; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Deklan, Lennox, and Phoebe Lewis, and Cooper Holst; and siblings, Suzanne Holst of Vinton and John (Kristin) Holst of Vinton; sister-in-law, Mary Untiedt and several nieces and nephews.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Donna Johnson and sister-in-law, Alice Bowen, brother-in-law, Craig Untiedt and mother and father-in-law, Loren and Wilma Bowen.
Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association and Salem United Methodist Church.
