Warren J. Carney, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Friday, May 12, 2017, at Emery Place Assisted Living and Rehab in Robins. A memorial gathering will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Friends may visit with the family after
10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of 61 years; two children, Ron (Denise) Carney of Mesa, Ariz., and Susan (Jeff) Kopish of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Kopish, Jory Kopish, Christopher Carney and Nichole (Ryan) Dixon; and great-granddaughter, Eleanor Kopish.
Warren Jack Carney was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Lisbon, the son of Harry and Jessie (Graver) Carney. Warren served his country during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a Cedar Rapids firefighter for 33 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed golfing, and following retirement, enjoyed gathering monthly for breakfast with fellow firefighters. Above all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Emery Place in Robins for their kind and compassionate care given to Warren during his time there.
