Waneitta Jean Henderson, 90, of Coggon, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Visitation: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Jackie) Henderson of Anamosa, Denny (Roxann) Henderson of Davidson, N.C., and Roger (Debbie) Henderson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jolene Colpo, Steven Henderson, Lynette Paulus, Jason Henderson, Jesse Henderson and Tricia Lombardi; great-grandchildren, Shane, Reid and Logan Colpo, Abby, Maegan and Janie Henderson, Zachary and Kelsey Paulus, Sophia Lombardi, Isabella, Isaiah and Isaac Henderson; and her siblings, June Emerson of Marion, Tom Ayers of Marion and Dorothy Woods of Cody, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; granddaughter, Lisa Henderson; and sister, Virginia Lea.
Waneitta was born Nov. 8, 1925, to Harold and Gheula (Coakley) Ayers in Iowa City, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Coggon High School in 1943. She married Harold Thomas "Butch" Henderson on Dec. 23, 1945, in Coggon. Waneitta attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught country school for two years.
She joined First Christian Church in 1941 and was active at United Parish Church in Coggon. Waneitta belonged to Eastern Star, Ladies Literary & Social Club and Church Ladies Group.
After teaching, she was a mother and homemaker until she and Butch established H & W Dry Goods in 1961 and operated the business until 1984.
Waneitta loved to cook, bake, dance, play cards, golf, travel and entertain. She especially loved to visit and serve family, friends, relatives and the elderly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Coggon Memorial Foundation.
