Wanda Petersen, 85, of Hale, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade. Funeral services celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Friends and family may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery following services Saturday.
Wanda was born to Alfred and Katherine (Hinrichs) Moore on Feb. 7, 1929. She married Robert Wayne Petersen on Nov. 13, 1946, in Oxford Junction. She worked at Clinton Engines and was also a homemaker.
She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bluegrass music, dancing and traveling. Wanda was a member of the Olin Legion Auxiliary and the Golden Rule Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Darwin) Betzer of Wyoming, Iowa, and Kathy (Richard) Close of Springville; five grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; her sisters, Colleen (Gary) Townsend of Mechanics-ville, Roberta Christiansen of Wellman and Gloria Bodkin and Marlene Levsen, both of Olin; brothers, Merlin (Carolyn) Moore of Anamosa, Larry (Annie) Moore of East Moline, Ill., and Carlyle "Butch" Moore of Mechanicsville; and special friend, Gale Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Robert Jr. and Steven; and siblings, Harlan, Sam, Tip, Carol Bendixen and Rich.
