Wanda Hucker, formerly of Marion, passed away Thursday, May 29, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids. There will be no visitation. A Private family service will be held.
Surviving Wanda are her three children, Lori (Jeff) Oberthien, Solon, Gary Hucker, Cedar Rapids, Bruce (Beverly) Hucker, Ames; three grandchildren, Benjamin Hucker of Ames, Todd Oberthien and Nichole Oberthien of Solon; two sisters, Ethel Reber of Sigourney, and Judy Gromak of Florida. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Jim, in 2011.
Wanda was born July 25, 1930, in Iowa City and grew up in West Branch, then returned to Iowa City where she graduated from City High. After that she attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. While living in Cedar Rapids, she met Jim and they were married in 1950 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. They then built a home together in Marion and raised their three children there.
Wanda was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion where she was very involved in her younger years. Along with church activities, Wanda was involved with her children's various activities through the years and was an avid crafter. Her later years were spent working jigsaw puzzles and playing Scrabble with her daughter Lori. Wanda was a wonderful mother and will be greatly missed by her family.
A memorial fund has been established in Wanda's name.
