Walton, Esther Jean (Sherman)
Esther Jean (Sherman) Walton, 90, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. Melanie Van Weelden. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Center Point.
Survivors include her daughter, Leann (Maury) Jones of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Mike (Jyl) Wyckoff of Ankeny and Sarah Wyckoff of Urbana; four great grandchildren, Allison, Marcus, Dayton and Symone; and special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and seven sisters.
Esther Jean was born March 9, 1922, the daughter of James and Nellie (Dimond) Sherman in Cedar Rapids. On June 13, 1942, she was united in marriage to Willard “Bill” Walton in Kahoka, Mo.
Esther Jean was a member of the First Christian Church in Center Point.
Esther Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, many crafts and watching sports.
The family would like to thank the Hiawatha Care Center for all the special care given Esther during her stay.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Esther.
