Walton, Donald 'Don' Dean
Donald “Don” Dean Walton, 89, of Mount Vernon, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Anamosa Care Center. A visitation for Don will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday June 17, at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Bill Daylong.
Surviving Don are his wife, Betty, of 63 years; his children, Douglas of Mount Vernon, Barbara (Darrell) Porter of Hopkinton and Kevin (Kim) of Marion; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding Don in death were his parents; a son, Craig; a sister, Beryl Walton; and a brother, John Wayne Walton.
Don was born Aug. 14, 1923, on the family farm in Mount Vernon, the youngest child of J. C. and Iva Beach Walton. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1942. He married Betty Detert on May 24, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. Don farmed all of his life on the family farms. He delivered chemicals for Brayton Chemical for 15 years.
He had an outgoing way with a sense of humor and loved to get together with family and friends.
