Walters, Loless 'Walt'
Loless “Walt” Walters, 80, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday morning, July 20, 2011, in Madison at King's Daughters' Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, 1209 Iowa Ave. West, Marshalltown. He will be laid to rest at Clemons Cemetery in Clemons. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Loless entered this life on Sept. 17, 1930, in Richmond, Ky., the son of the late Harry and Mary Emmaline Davis Walters. He was raised in Trimble County, Ky., and attended school there. He was inducted into the United States Marine Corps on Aug. 6, 1951, during the Korean War, and rose to the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 6, 1953. He moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and began a career with the Quaker Oats Co., retiring in 1985 as a packaging supervisor after 35 years of service. He was united in marriage on Jan. 1, 1950, to LaVone Cooling, and they shared 50 years of marriage together until her death on July 6, 2000. He moved to Madison in 2001 and was united in marriage to Helen Jean Craig Facemire on Sept. 6, 2003, at Hebron Baptist Church near Madison, Ind.
He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. He enjoyed running the campgrounds for the Regatta, mowing, working on the lawn, tinkering with cars.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen Jean Craig Facemire Walters of Madison, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Karen Pyles and her husband, Terry, of Madison, Ind., and Donna Stemler and her husband, Chris, of Bedford, Ind.; a stepson, Steve Facemire and his wife, Christy, of Madison, Ind.; his stepgrandchildren: Stephanie Wegener, Amanda Wease, Amelia Facemire and Branson Facemire; his sisters, Delora McCoy of Milton, Ky., Minnie Burton and Betty Craig and her husband, Claude, all of Bedford, Ky., and Edith Rae Dixon and her husband, Harold, of Madison, Ind.; his special nephew, whom he helped raise, Ryan Hajek and his wife, Amy, of Solon, Iowa; his one great-niece, Josie Hajek of Solon; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Frank Heverline of Milton, Ky., William Allen and Linda Craig of Bedford, Ky., Richard Wayne Craig of Milton, Ky., and Betty Craig and her late husband, Elmer Eugene, of Bedford, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.
In death, he rejoined his parents, Henry and Mary Emmaline Davis Walters; his first wife, LaVone Cooling Walters; his sisters, Alice Helton, Bertha Masters and Nancy McCoy; and his brothers, Dan, Floyd, Bill and John Henry Walters.
