Walter Ross "Wally" Searcy, 76, of Springville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Squaw Creek Baptist Church in Marion, by the Rev. Mike Kleeburger. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Charlene; two daughters, Rebecca (David) Nelson of Wilton and Rachel (Mark) Bemenderfer of Shanghai, China; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Pam) Searcy of Independence; and a sister, Jean (Karl) Laudner of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sally Stewart.
Wally was born Nov. 20, 1928, the son of Thomas and Sarah "Betty" (Hovey) Searcy in Independence. On Sept. 21, 1963, he married Charlene Heinrich in Dryden, Wash. Wally was a middle school teacher at Springville for 18 years. He was a member of Squaw Creek Baptist Church in Marion.
Following his retirement from teaching, Wally turned his hobby of collecting postcards into a business with his collection exceeding 1 million cards at one time. What Wally was most passionate about was telling others about his faith, and about receiving salvation through Jesus Christ.
