Walter A. Scott, Jr., 92, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Private family burial will follow.
Walter is survived by his children, Debra (Rory LaGrotta) Zilavy of Santa Rosa, Calif., Lisa (Tom) Johnson of Essex, Iowa, and Barbara Engbretson of Potosi, Wis.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian Hoeppner; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia, in 1989; parents; siblings, Lenore Lee, Adele Ditmars, Arlene Ewing and Jane Stanton; son-in-law, Jeff Engbretson; and special friend, Yvonne Donahue, in 2002.
Walter was born March 3, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Walter and Mary (Peterson) Scott Sr. He graduated from Morgan Park High School, Chicago, in 1943, and attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Patricia Engelbert on Jan. 10, 1946. Walter and Pat raised their family in Marion. They enjoyed many years on the Mississippi River in the Guttenberg area. Walter worked in purchasing for Rockwell Collins, Century Engineering, and Iowa Electric. He was an avid reader, golfer, bowler and bridge player. In recent years, Walter resided at Keystone Place in Cedar Rapids.
