Walter Louis Hack, 94, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden with the Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Walter was born on Dec. 22, 1921, to John and Louisa (Schlueter) Hack, in Massillon, Iowa. He attended Goose Creek School in Massillon, Trinity Lutheran School and Lowden High School, where he graduated in 1940. He married Evelyn Meier on Feb. 15, 1948. They farmed near Clarence until 1964 when they purchased their farm two miles north of Lowden.
Walter was a member of the Massillon Creamery board, AMPI Milk Producers, Trinity Couples Club and the Lowden Historical Society. He served as an officer at one time in these organizations as well as being an elder, trustee and member of the cemetery committee at Trinity Lutheran. He enjoyed going to his children and grandchildren's activities and refinishing furniture. In earlier years, he enjoyed showing Belgian horses with his brother, Emil.
Walter is survived by his children, Justine (Darrell) Beaver of Center Point, Reatha Hack of Cedar Rapids, Claire Hack of Lowden and Robyn (Sammi) Scott of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Brett Beaver, Carrie (John) Jaeger, Casey (Courtney) Hack and Heather and Heidi Scott; and great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kamden Hack and Harper, Elise and Jensen Jaeger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brothers, Emil and Elmer; sister, Alma; and grandson, Chad Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
