Walter Earl Bruce, age 89, of Shellsburg, Iowa died Monday, April 15, 2024, at his rural Shellsburg home.
Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024. Memorial service 11:30 AM, Friday, April 19, 2024, at Oak Grove Christian Church, Shellsburg, with Rev. Matt Magee officiating.
Walter Earl Bruce was born February 21, 1935, in Shellsburg, Iowa, son of Willis and Hazel (Van Dyke) Bruce. He was a 1953 graduate of Shellsburg High School. He married Martha Jean Petro on March 31, 1957 at the Oak Grove Christian Church near Shellsburg, Iowa. He was a lifelong member of the Oak Grove Christian Church and was active in leadership most of his life. He loved serving the Lord at Oak Grove. He worked at LeFebure Corp for 47 years, retiring in 2000. He also was active in farming at his home near Shellsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Petro Bruce, two sons, William (Louise) Bruce of Shellsburg, Dale (Joanne) Bruce of West Des Moines and one daughter, Brenda Linley of Iowa City, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Nancy Seely, Shellsburg and sister-in-law, Bev Bruce, of Sarasota, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Bruce, sisters, Ethel Sweet and Mary Michels, and grandson Oscar Linley.
